Overview
When I was 11, I was waiting for my mom at the book area of a store (I guess she was off getting something she needed) and I saw a book with cover art featuring a man riding a dragon between two floating chunks of land. I asked if I could have the book, and she bought it for me.
Years later, I told her about that event, and she told me that she must have really believed I would read it, because we didn't have the money for much frivolous spending. In fact, she most likely put back several items to pay for the paperback book. The sacrifices parents make for their kids are amazing.
I read it that summer. I remember it taking me the entire summer. I have since spent far too much money on books and a large percentage of my life reading pretty much anything I can get my hands on.
Anyway, that book was the first book in the Death Gate cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, Dragon Wing.
I will read all seven books in the series this year.
