You can start and finish this challenge whenever you like!

With over 14 novels and a plethora of short stories spanning over 40 years, Haruki Murakami is highly regarded not only in Japan, but all over the word. His works have been translated into 50 languages, with millions of copies sold.

Using first-person narratives with a blend of magical realism, surrealism, art, and classical music, Murakami's storytelling is unique and beloved by readers from all corners of the globe. My introduction to his work was the dream like and kaleidoscopic 'Killing Commendatore', which I read in early 2020. Within 10 pages, I knew I had to read more after completing it.

So if you're a diehard fan who has read multiple titles, or you've only read one but would like to explore more, join me in expanding your knowledge of the Murakamiscapes.

OBJECTIVE:
Including titles you may have read in years past, read as many novels and short story collections written by Haruki Murakami. The works can be read in editions that are translated, or in the original Japanese.

PROMPTS:
  • Novels - 14
  • Short Story Collections - 5
  • Nonfiction - 1 (Bonus prompt)

NOTE:
  1. Rather than making one prompt for each individual short story, I've listed his short story collections instead, most of which will include his short stories from past and present.
  2. Any and all titles written by Murakami that are published after the initial creation date of this challenge, February 2021, will be added accordingly.
