🏛️ Dark Academia Book Challenge 2021

Hosted by bibilly

90 participants, 85 books added

Starts: Wednesday, 01 September 2021

Ends: Thursday, 01 September 2022

Round 2 is already up!

A challenge centered on the fiction (not the aesthetic) that can be labeled as Dark Academia. Since there's no official definition of DA fiction, here I use my own: any minimally ominous book featuring morally grey characters who are on a journey of academic/self improvement, regardless of setting -- including magical schools and the like, but not limited to a campus. It can be a thriller/fantasy/horror or even a classic book, YA or adult. But nothing is set on stone, so, if you prefer, you can just read what best fits your own idea of DA.

RULES:
  • The challenge is to read at least 10 DA books in the course of a year, basically one book a month.
  • 2 books/months are bonus prompts.
  • Of course you can skip a month and then read two books in the next, start later and finish earlier, or even read the 10 books in one month. Also, in case you choose to follow the themes suggested for each month, you don't have to complete them in order. Just fill in the obligatory prompts with DA books whenever you can. The goal is to read as much as possible with enjoyment and flexibility (and if you read a book for more than one prompt no one will know).
  • The themes and books in the descriptions are just suggestions! And I'm sorry if I misjudged the content of some of them. I've made this list for myself based on synopses, so I also haven't read these books yet.

🚨 Round 2 is already up for those who didn't/won't have time to keep up with the first or just want to continue reading the genre. With less prompts, the next DABC will take place right after this one, from September to December. Click here to go to its page.

💫 I'm also hosting a challenge for epic poems in case someone here is interested. 💫
