Starts: Saturday, 01 June 2024

Ends: Saturday, 07 September 2024

The following is an explanation about the prompts for The 4Rs Readathon hosted by me(Ellorna) of EllornasLibrary. Please be gentle, as this is my first ever readathon - that I decided to create with only 3 days left in May lololol cause I'm a hot mess over here - so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I don't have a Discord, but I do have both Instagram & Threads, which I will link below, where you can leave feedback.

When does it take place?: The start date is midnight, June 1st and the end date is midnight, August 31st. You can start in whatever timezone works for you or you can start in my timezone(eastern). The choice is yours.

What is the readathon goal?: To read books on your tbr(this can be your owned tbr, your general tbr, your library tbr, whatever you define as a tbr).

What do the 4Rs stand for?: Read, Reduce, Restore, & Reward. Since the goal is to read books on your tbr, the choice for those two words is obvious though reduce could fit for fulfilling reading challenge goals/prompts as well. Restore? Well, reading is a great way to de-stress as is fulfilling goals/challenges and to restore some energy. And, of course, there's Reward, which you can interpret as you please: decreasing the books on your tbr and fulfilling your reading goals/challenges could be rewarding, or it could be an actual reward you give yourself at the end.

Can I double-up?: Yes. Double, triple, whatever. Go for it!

Do graphic novels/manga count?: Yes. Any genre/format counts. As well as even fanfiction if that’s what you’re into reading. We don’t judge here. Sadly, you might not be able to log it for the SG Challenge - I don’t know the rules for fanfic there - but I know that GR has some fanfics on it if you want to track that way.

Are there graphics?: Of course! I've made a bingo card for the prompts as well as a graphic to share your hopeful reads. There's a version with shapes if you want to just put a cover over, and a version with frames where I'll share the Canva link so you should be able to just hover the cover image over the slot and bam. . . hoping I did it right. Let me know if I didn't, and how to fix it if you know lol I'm still learning. These will be shared on my IG but the links will be shared on my Threads & in the Google Doc - all things linked below - along with the new SG Challenge link for each month.

Do we have a hashtag?: For sharing, if you want to use a hashtag to be found easier then I’d say lets use #The4RsReadathon2024 to share

About the Prompts:
Each month(June, July, August) I'll release a new Bingo card. The card will have 5 repeating reading prompts on it, but then the other 3 reading prompts will be specific to that month. The ones specific to the month have to be completed within that time frame.

  • There are 3 self-care prompt options. These won’t change though I might toss out some optional ones if people completed all 3 already & want something fresh.
  • Instead of free space we have a 'Read Anything' square, which can be a reading prompt or a self-care prompt or both if you choose, on the card. It can literally be anything even a newspaper or magazine. Also, you don't have to finish reading anything for this square so if you decide to group it with another prompt? You can do that.
  • There are 5 repeating reading prompts. These prompts will stay the same each month. You can choose to complete them over the entire 3 months or to do them all each month with new books - the choice is yours.
  • There are 3 month specific prompts. These 3 prompts will change with each month, and can only be completed in that time frame.
    • June's Specific Reading Prompts:
      • a pollinator OR flower/Fruit on cover
      • features immigrants or about immigration
      • has an LGBTQIA+ main character
    • July's Specific Reading Prompts:

The SG Challenge is specifically for the reading prompts.  For more details on the prompts, and the readathon, but also an alternative source here is a link to the google doc
