2022 MAY of the MODERNS!

Hosted by margaretpinard

19 participants, 56 books added

Starts: Sunday, 01 May 2022

Ends: Tuesday, 31 May 2022

If you're on Booktube, you know and love Victober...but what happened to writing AFTER the Victorians messed with our heads? What did readers have to turn to through a global depression and two world wars? We dive in to 1901-1945 books to find out!

That is the only requirement to participate: read a book written between 1901 and 1945, inclusive. But we've also got prompts, prizes, and a buddy read match-up if you want to dig a little deeper 🤗

Prompts are below, specially selected by your favorite Booktubers to help me get a broader range of viewpoints. Definitely check them out if you don't know them yet--links in the descriptions, along with some recommended reads to start you off.

Prizes! The one prize that remains the same is a book of your choice from Persephone Books, which, along with Victober, inspired this readathon idea, because they reprint/republish a lot of glorious but forgotten novels written by women in the early 20th century. That's my jam!

Additional prizes this year include a bookish package (book or two curated to receiver's taste, bookmarks, book swag), and a book gift certificate (Bookshop.org or what works for your country). Two of these prizes will be given out randomly via Streamyard's giveaway tool on our wrap-up livestream, TBA, and one will be given to a commenter on that video in its first 24 hours, to accommodate readers around the world! The giveaway is  open to all who complete at least three prompts.

And our buddy read match-up! We'll be using a spreadsheet to add recommendations to, and also to assign buddies to. The link to view and edit is here, and I went over how to use it during my announcement video on 3/22/22. I hope to encourage more reading of diverse viewpoints and historical understanding of our present situation, wherever we are in the world. Thanks to those participating!
