Challenge prompts

1. Native Nonfiction (80 books added)

When I think Native nonfiction, I think of a collection of lyric essays or memoir. But I encourage you to think expansively in your selection: you can choose investigative journalism or a history book or something else based on real life.

2. A book that is red (64 books added)

The obvious choice for this prompt is a book with a red cover, but there are other ways to interpret it. Perhaps a book with red painted edges or the word ‘red’ in the title? The choice is yours!

3. Fiction published before the year 2000 (38 books added)

Many of the Native authors publishing novels in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s were part of the Native American Renaissance, writing what are now the classics in Native American fiction.

4. A short story collection or a short story (40 books added)

This one is pretty self-explanatory. I’m excited to see what you come up with, particularly if you’re seeking out a unique short story!

5. A children’s book (61 books added)

This can include picture books, middle grade fiction, YA. Any book aimed at youth will do!
