Overview
As Emily Henry was rising in popularity I picked up Beach Read, didn't really vibe with it, and thought she'd be a one and done author for me. Flash forward two years and I have an addiction to audiobooks. Happy Place is her newest release, so I download it. Be it Julia Whelan, my theory that HEA romances just work better as audiobooks, or just that my life was in a different place, but after that I started the journey of reading all of her books. Oscillating between her back catalog and her newer works.
She's honestly still not my favorite author (ratings range from a 3.25 to a 4.0) but she has a place. And at the speed she writes, I'll look forward to something new from her every year. I like the direction she's headed.

Great Big Beautiful Life
Emily Henry
I don't think it's possible to read this without thinking of Taylor Jenkins Reid. She absolutely stole a page out of her book (no pun intended), intertwining romance with a historical, "true" story. It's odd to rank first as it almost doesn't feel in the same category as her other novels, but I truthfully hope she sticks with this type of romance is the driving force but also takes a backseat style. I really liked both Alice & Hayden, though I think she left a lot unresolved with their relationship at the end. I'm ranking this high because of Alice & Margaret (though she left a lot unresolved there too lmao)

Book Lovers
Emily Henry
Look, am I ranking the two books I've read the most recently the highest? Yes. But the first meeting of them being in NYC and then the discovery of being in Sunshine Falls... I just thought it all intertwined nicely and was "realistic" in a sense. The vibes were great with the sister & the bookshop. Sometimes these style books have too much going on but this was a fairly straightforward will they won't they, with a female character who doesn't waver in her wants.

Funny Story
Emily Henry
Veryy interesting to have two couples instead of one. To start us off knowing which pairings used to be together and who wants to get back together. It gives you just the right amount of wondering how things are going to end, even if everything is pointing in the direction of Daphne & Miles--the roommate/ex-boyfriend. A fake dating trope and yet another MC who loves books in some capacity lol
The only down vote for me is when romances make such a big point to include family dynamics, or, what is usually more specifically mom issues.

Happy Place
Emily Henry
Emily Henry tries a lot of new things here. A friend group instead of family. A couple who has history and is getting back together rather than getting together, and a fresh twist on a "fake dating" trope.
Truthfully I don't remember much from this. And despite this having a lower rating (3.5) than PWMOV (3.75) something is telling me to rank it higher... I think just the idea of "omg they have to pretend to be together when they're not together even though they WANT to get together" is appealing to me even now, though I think it fell flat in the book? I just remember getting tired of the miscommunication and the reasons they felt they were incompatible. Also me and the MC just didn't really gel.

People We Meet on Vacation
Emily Henry
I love a book that has different povs or two different timelines, so the flashing back and forth between them on their various vacations hitting it off to them now awkward with hidden feelings. Sometimes, knowing how it's going to end is what stops me from enjoying it completely along the way. However I am already seated for the movie adaptation.

Beach Read
Emily Henry
As mentioned above, nott my favorite. Didn't click with me. I almost want to go back and listen on audiobook and give it a second chance but I'm scared of waisting my time lol. Rationally it is okay not to vibe with every single piece of work an artist makes! We do this with directors and musicians. It's just super interesting to me this was her first big break and a major reason we have all of the books listed above. Shoutout tiktok for trending this like crazy. It's also the only one I have on my shelves which is funny.
