Disability Readathon 2022

Hosted by tenar

20 participants, 95 books added

Starts: Friday, 01 April 2022

Ends: Saturday, 30 April 2022

The Disability Readathon is an #OwnVoices reading challenge that celebrates and amplifies disabled authors and content creators.

To complete your reading list for the Disability Readathon, pick one challenge from each of the four categories for a total of four reads in April.

Here on StoryGraph, the four categories are listed as prompts, and their challenges are listed as “bonus” prompts. To get credit for completing each category, be sure to add your chosen book to its challenge prompt and to the category that challenge belongs to.
For example, to complete Category 1, you might decide to complete the challenge “Read a poetry collection”. Add your poetry collection to that challenge prompt, and also to the prompt marked “Category 1”.

This year there is a group book, Disability Visibility, edited by Alice Wong. Reading the group book is optional and is listed as the final bonus challenge.

When putting together your reading list, please ensure all texts are own voices - meaning by disabled creators. Also prioritize texts by multiply-marginalized people (e.g., disabled people of color, queer people, and/or low-income folks).

While StoryGraph is limited to books, this readathon is meant to be highly customizable and the challenges can be switched around to fit your accessibility requirements or how much you want to participate. Click here for the full list of challenges, some of which are activities other than reading. This event is meant to be fun - as long as you’re reading books or viewing media by disabled creators, you are officially part of the readathon!

The #DisabilityReadathon is hosted by Erin Hawley and Anna Goldberg.
