Nothing Fancy: Unfussy Food for Having People Over by Alison Roman

4.0

Disclaimer: I have not made any of the recipes yet. Also disclaimer: not much for vegans or vegetarians in here, and A LOT of anchovies. Like, a lot.

That said, I thought this looked pretty good! Many of the recipes looked impressive but would be easy enough for me to do. I didn't think these would be Wednesday night dinners, but certainly a side dish I could take to Thanksgiving. Until I start thinking about the likelihood of ever having Thanksgiving with my family again and I get weepy. But I digress! The writing itself is often pretentious, but the author acknowledges it. And I appreciate that she advocates for fruit as a dessert, three good cheeses for snacking, and offers some really good-looking sides that don't all have bacon in them. I think that's the biggest takeaway for me here- there's a middle ground between fanning out a bunch of Kraft singles on a plate and spending 9 hours building an edible chandelier (good grief, Paul Hollywood).
