Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt

3.0

3 stars because it had some really slooooow parts. However, the writing was very beautiful, and the story was so real. I loved the historical details that were so naturally woven into dialogue and letters; I loved that the author didn't sugar coat the hardship of that era, and that she made her characters suffer. I loved that none of the characters was perfect. I loved how Hunt developed Jethro into a young man with a very mature perspective on the world. I loved that the ending was happy, but not unrealistic. Really, it's a fantastic little book!! It's just hard to get past some of the very slow passages.
