What You Are Looking For is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama

5.0

"What You Are Looking for Is in the Library" contains five short stories about entirely different people, each searching for their path in life. At first, it seems they have nothing in common, but after reading the second story, it is clear that they do. They are looking for new things to learn, new things to excel at, and finding new hobbies and their place in society. They all meet at some time and place. The library, located at the Hatori Community House, brings all of these people together. The librarian gives recommendations and a bonus gift to the visitors, who then (and therefore perhaps?) proceed to change their way of thinking and their way of life. The book touches on how we view society, work, and relationships between people.
I loved this book as the writing is very soothing and comforting. The author is capable of transporting the reader straight into the library, meeting the characters, and getting to know the different ideas and ways of living each character chooses throughout the book.
