Emperor of the Eight Islands by Lian Hearn

3.0

If you’re looking for a high fantasy book with in-depth world-building and complex, nuanced characters this ain’t it, my friend.

If you’re looking for a mediocre read, nothing to difficult to get your head around, and you have zero interest in becoming attached to anyone fictional in the near future, I say have at it.

It was very flat. That’s about as much as I’m willing to say about it. I’ve finished it feeling no particular strong feelings of any kind, which is a shame. The story was intriguing but the characters were cookie-cutter types with little merit. I have no desire whatsoever to read its sequel.
