arcuysnn 's review for:
Seven Blades in Black
by Sam Sykes
Did not finish, but should have rated last year since I didn't read much more this year. I picked this one up again and found myself liking it more than before, but I just don't like some of Sykes's writing quirks, and although this is a revenge story and I love revenge stories, the revenge itself feels weak and oftentimes secondary. Sal the Cacophony is a great character, but surrounds herself with boring characters in a world that's not quite as real or interesting as Sykes thinks it is. The action scenes are cool, too, as Sam understands how to make action l, character, and plot meld, but in the end, I'm reading what makes me happy this year, and this one just doesn't cut it enough.
