This reads like a minor Discworld novel, one that Terry Pratchett could write if he were a boring heartless snob. There's something audacious in the nihilism on show here, and I guess in a way it captures the mood of its time, but mostly I just felt that Evelyn Waugh must have been an exceedingly unpleasant character.
