How We Roll by Natasha Friend
3.0

I liked it. I liked Quin's family dynamics. I especially liked that Ivy's ex-girlfriend-jealousy wasn't this long, drawn-out cliched plotline, even though the set up was there. I liked that it was a thing, then it was discussed, and then it wasn't a thing anymore.

I did think the story ended abruptly. I thought I was halfway through the story, then I turned the page to the acknowledgments. It felt like it ended just as it was getting started. There wasn't enough resolution between Q's mom and dad, or between Q and her friends, both new and old. I would have liked to know more about her friends. I feel like they weren't given enough time to develop as characters. They all felt too surface level. The romance with Nick felt forced towards the end, as well. Or maybe not forced so much as unfinished? I'm glad that they got to the point where they are comfortable with each other, but I wanted more of the relationship. More of the growth. Nick's first day wearing the prosthetics out of the house. Q's first basketball game sans wig. A conversation between Mo and Phil about understanding the other's position with Julius a little better. There was just too much left hanging for the story to have ended where it did.

Overall Impression: I liked it, but I wanted more.
