Magic, deadly trials, romance, found family, and morally gray characters! This book has a touch of it all. The author is able to depict a beautiful world with an interesting magic system, but at times, I question why certain places or things were described in such details. I'm hoping it will become clearer in future books. 

The trials the prospects go through were an interesting range, and I liked that it wasn't solely focused on brute force and fighting. 

There are multiple POVs with Ever and Calyx, which gives a fun glimpse into the feelings for each other. 

This series definitely has some amazing potential, and I look forward to book two!
