Lieutenant and Navy SEAL Derek Vaughn and FBI Agent Elizabeth LeBlanc worked together almost a year ago, came close to a romance but went their separate ways as she wasn’t interested in a non committed relationship and he went on another long term mission. Now they’ve been thrown together again following Derek’s latest op where they discovered intelligence about a major terrorist threat targeting the city of Houston. She’s been assigned to the task force and he’s on the periphery of the FBI-led investigation.

I was glad to revisit these two as she’s so buttoned up and insecure and Derek couldn’t be further from that description. He brings the best out of her and she grounds him. However, the investigation was the real focus of the story and it was developed so perfectly with threats, twists and turns at every juncture. It was gnarly because of the anonymity of the players and figuring out the who, what, where and when was truly difficult...the why was pretty clear. I loved trying to follow the case and figure out what was coming next. This was a truly exciting story with a HUGE climax that had my heart racing.

The Tracers figured prominently also and, again, I learned something about forensics I didn’t previously know. This series is surpassing my expectations and this story was excellent.
