I finally read this book after seeing hype about it for months online and I’m really glad I did!! It has these short punchy chapters which make it addictive and very readable. The story follows a cult of rich privileged girls at an arts program and explores  the weird shit they get up to. The plot twist about what the cult does turned out to be incredibly dark and gory - I didn’t expect there to be so much violence and body horror from a book with such an innocuous cover. But the prose is genuinely good.

I also studied creative writing at university so I could relate to the stress of workshopping your writing and facing criticism from people who don’t necessarily get your work or even care that much about what you’re trying to do. And also some of the criticisms it makes about arts degrees are valid.

I had a slight issue with the ending - it just became too surreal for me. I got a little frustrated with the unreliable narration because even some of the few things that grounded me in the story turned out to be false and things stopped making sense.

But overall, a brilliant book! I really left my comfort zone with this one but I had a good time.
