Interestingly enough, the ending of the book makes the whole story less plausible based on the likelihood of that ever happening. Yet also more real because of the fuckery of it all.
There being another illegitimate child seemed very likely and I was waiting for that to come up all along. But that he starts obsessively stalking her for no real reason, then him being the one to actually kill their father, prevent her from benefiting of all the murders in any way, yes the cycle continues, men fuck over women all the time, but it didn't feel satisfactory or clever. Also, the way she constantly dismissed Kelly made it way too obvious that Kelly wasn't to be dismissed. I'm not sure what a better, more genuinely satisfying ending would have been for me, as her riding off merrily in the sunset having killed everyone successfully and inherited the money wouldn't have been satisfactory either. I do think there was a less obvious, more ambiguous ending in there.
