The Riddle-Master of Hed by Patricia A. McKillip

3.0

I liked this book. It wasn't as good as I was hoping for, but a short entertaining read none the less. This was definitely just an opening book though. A friend told me that I should just read all 3 as one big book (which I haven't) and after finishing this one I can see why he said that. It just started to get interesting at the end. Not that the beginning is bad, just setting stuff up for the world and characters. One thing I found funny or ironic or whatever you want to call it is that I couldn't help but be reminded of a JRPG video game while reading this. Little peasant boy is living a mundane life and then something strang/cataclysmic happens and it turns out he is the chosen one to save the world. Only difference? This book title character is a prince, not a peasant boy. Enjoyable. Read on recommendation. Hope I can get to the others soon otherwise I might not finish.
