A truly entertaining book, as one might expect from this author. Simultaneously a travel adventure and an educational experience, where we get a sense of the societal reality of the 1970s in the various countries Theroux travels to. The supposedly non-fictional characters, he meets on the way, are often querky or otherwise unique, and are described by Theroux with a notable amount of irony. This book has sparked my own desire to travel (again).
