Epic considering the abbreviated length of this novella: we have memory-vampirism, hyper-advanced AI masterminds incapable of foreseeing their own demise, space-feudalism thrown across planets like a string of pearls, and a time-bending romance that involves many faces and a fiery end. Sure. It's all quite heady and high concept, but the plot clips along quickly and it's over almost before it's even begun. This was my introduction to Hamilton and I might have to find more at the library.
