The Slow Regard of Silent Things
by Patrick Rothfuss
Not as engaging as the two main books in The Kingkiller series, but The Slow Regard of Silent Things gives us an intimate look at one of the more mysterious and elusive characters in the overarching narrative. Aurie's eccentricity is directly related to her hidden power, a fact that becomes more evident as we join her over a period of about a week. There are hints that the knowledge she's gained has caused her to exhibit these near autistic characteristics, but the reader quickly sees that's she's not crazy, and certainly not helpless. I particularly enjoyed getting to explore The Underthing, and I hope that the third novel allows us a look at the place through Kvothe's eyes.
