Here There Are Monsters by Amelinda Bérubé

1.0

Edit: read this in 2020, but eventually gave it 1 star in 2023.

This is the first time in a long while that I'm not able to rate a book. It was good but I didn't like it. I especially didn't like the ending, or maybe more accurately the last half of the book.

The characters started out promising, but there wasn't much to like about them in the end. I guess it's accurate in some ways, like Skye being a self absorbed teen who wants to fit in. The biggest issue was that we never really got to know them that well. One was hinted at as lesbian, one of the sisters as having a disorder/issues and so on, but they didn't take it anywhere beyond mentioning it. They didn't use it, it was just page fodder.

I usually love YA thrillers, horror and unlikable characters but here there was just not enough follow-through to make it good.
