Set in Rhode Island I thought this was something I’d like because I have a soft spot for New England books. The splattering of racism just to be racist (where did talking about black people eating fried chicken add to the plot?) and the messy drama just for a higher word count really made the book harder to read. I liked the ensemble of characters so you did get a view of different people but the book wasn’t a thrilling page turner. There were parts of the story that could have twisted and turned but in the end it fell flat for me.
