I thought this was very good. I think I’m a bit aged-out of the target demographic—a lot of the twists were foreseeable to someone who’s read a lot of mysteries, particularly of the gothic variety, and the points made about the erasure of women’s voices and believing victims were solid but not revelatory. That said, it was atmospheric with an interesting heroine, and addressed rape culture in a way that I think was much more subtle and effective than The Female of the Species, which I can’t help but compare it to as the other YA mystery/thriller I read recently that tried to make similar points.
