Maybe a Fox by Kathi Appelt, Alison McGhee
3.0

I gotta say, I'm a little disappointed with this book. I was so excited to read it because I had heard amazing things about it but it fell a little flat for me. The entire premise of this book is absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking. Two young sisters, inseparable, until one is lost forever. That type of grief is unimaginable to me because I'm very close with my own sister. The magic elements of this book were also very interesting. I just don't think that they collided very well. I feel like because of the middle grade format, certain elements weren't able to be explained as well as they should have been. If this was an adult book, I think the concepts would have made more sense and everything would have tied together.

I did enjoy this book and it's a very quick read. It's impossibly sad but done so beautifully. Grief is covered very well, especially for a middle grade and I think that's very important. I wish that I enjoyed this more than I did.
