God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything
by Christopher Hitchens
I had high hopes for this book. I quite enjoyed Dawkins' explanation of God's fabrication and found his arguments well thought-out, argued, and enumerated. Hitchens, however, did not set similar goals. The sole purpose of this book was to show all the ways in which religion have negatively impacted society. He does this, in his own, brilliant style, but his prose is so incredibly unfocused that I found it hard to follow. Instead of following the headings of each chapter or sub-chapter, it comes across much more as a list of stories in which religion has "poisoned" the world. A fun exercise for Hitchens perhaps, but it often came across as somewhat masturbatory.
