The Long Way Home
by Louise Penny
Can I give more than 5 stars?
This book is amazing. I've been reading straight through Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache books since I borrowed the first one from the library in August. I bought the second one, knowing that it was one of those books that I'd want to re-read even before I read it. Now it's February, 6 months later, and I've bought every succeeding book, and I've just finished "The Long Way Home". The books, the characters, the meaning, all evolve and deepen as the series goes on. Reading Louise Penny is a wonderful experience; I find myself savouring and lingering over each paragraph, although I often skim through books, especially descriptive passages. With the last few books, I've been thinking, "This is the best one yet!" and then after I finish the one after that, I think it again. So that's my reaction: "This is the best one yet." I've already bought the next one and I'm going to start reading it today.
