Spoilt Creatures by Amy Twigg
3.0
The novel, ‘Spoiled Creatures,’ starts off as a coming-of-age for a woman in her thirties. Understanding that her life hasn’t gone the way she expected, and that she is still living in the way younger women do around her, our protagnonist, Iris, seeks help in turning her life around.
That help comes in the form of joining a community solely for women, guided by a single matriarch, Blythe. Breach House, is the name of the community, located in a beautiful landscape, away from the city. Though everything appears normal at first, it becomes clear very quickly that Iris is slowly being consumed by her environment, and that the community isn’t quite as innocent as she thought it would be.
Though it starts slow, Spoiled Creatures is a story of codependency and how it makes us vulnerable.
