This book was exactly what I expected a classic teacher/student romance with loads of background drama and problems.
Maisie is eighteen, her mother is a drug addict and her father has left. She sleeps with a lot of older men and isn't good with relationships, runs away when she gets close to people. She meets a man at a carnival, it's a spark instant in the roller coaster. They have sex and it was ngl really sweetly described, he payed all the attention to her, making sure she was okay etc. Maisie had never been treated like that before and ran away scared.
In her film studies class she meets her teacher who is Evan. Things become real intense really fast, they still see each other, go to motels until Evan eventually rents a loft for them to be together.
Wesley is Maisie's best friend, he is funny, typically good looking and has a crush on her. It's rather creepy ngl he takes a lot of pictures of her and videos her. Wesley eventually kisses her, it freaks her out especially as he knew she was seeing someone. She ultimately forgives him. He introduced her to his family where she meets his mother. His mother knows about her and Evan as she saw how they interacted with each other. She tells Maisie her story about dating her teacher and how it went all wrong.
Things become really intense Evan gets Maisie a ring, he tells her he loves her. Everything was going well. Until they got a bit carried away and had sex in a classroom, a student basically knew.
Their final film projects get shown, Maisie's brilliant showing her time with Evan without faces the story of falling in love, from the carnival, dates and time alone. She gets an A.
Wesley's film is about an obsession, Maisie's obsession with Evan. Wesley thought he was doing the right thing protecting her by showing her what he was doing to her. But instead he basically outed their relationship to the entire class. Maisie falls out with Wesley. Evan leaves school to teach elsewhere.
A student began blackmailing Maisie and wanted her to get drugs for her. She becomes a dealer, she makes money, clears her moms debt and find enough money to give her the option to go to a rehabilitation centre. She goes.
Maisie eventually forgives Wesley and idk if I could have. That was such a personal thing and he just outed their relationship like it was nothing. He didn't think about the consequences he just did it. But she forgives him. Wesley knew it was Evan from the start he saw her at the carnival and filmed her. Now Evan on the first day of class said that you can't film people without permission. And he did? I just think that was very creepy. nOPE. bYE Wesley.
Maisie got accepted into several colleges and chose to go to LA with Wesley.
Evan has a past we find out his name is Eric but he does legally change it to Evan. A student who was 17 at the time flirted with him, came onto him because of the thrill. Because a student teacher relationship is forbidden. Things went a little too far they slept together, she got pregnant and had a miscarriage. He moved to get away from all those things.
Maisie thought she was just another young girl, another student like her. Like she wasn't special at all. But she was. Evan proves this to her and gets on that plane to go and be with her in LA. I love how we come full circle how he said Aren't you brave sitting up front, just like he did when they sat on the roller coaster. It ended really well.
The only thing I didn't really like was the amount of sex scenes, yeah a few great, but I wasn't even halfway through and their were loads. Some good, some repetitive.
Some lines made me cringe, it was a little cheesy some things a bit dodgy. But I took this book as something that wasn't serious, a fun read that I knew wasn't going to change my life. I enjoyed it.
