Not the sort of book I usually read but I watched the film years ago and it stuck with me, so I wanted to try the book, and I'm glad I did. The style of prose isn't my usual preference but I loved it, and the resigned and bittersweet feeling to the narration was really beautiful despite its simplicity. Ruth was more than a little frustrating, and focus on her did impact my enjoyment slightly at some points. But overall it more than lived up to what I hoped this book would be, and I'd strongly recommend it.
