Mary Kubica wrote a solid and entertaining mystery. There were twists I didn't see coming, but some of them fell flat for me. Suspense was well done for the beginning of the book. I appreciated the storyline of obstetric abuse and violence, however, I don't know that it adds much to the overall plot. There were times the characters and plot points felt too unrealistic for me.
Like the female detective lying to Josh about the DNA test results. Or the police finding Bea's blood in Meredith's garage yet not investigating more about it.

Speaking of Bea, her motive behind Shelby and Meredith's demise is unsatisfying. And to somehow keep Delilah locked up for eleven years with our her partner knowing anything?!?! Makes no sense to me. Not a fan of the ending either. A girl kept captive for eleven years by her own neighbor is not gonna jump back into normal life that easily.

Still an entertaining read though.
