A brilliant look into the psyche of gamblers, but also a window into the relationship between high class people in 19th century and their differences and prejudices they have about one another based on their nationality. The relationship between the main character and his love interest is very intense, unline anything I've seen before, and therefore it is really captivating. It's a really quick read, both with the number of pages but also the intensity of the plot.
