Difficult one to review. I maybe could have given this 4 stars, but something held me back. First, as other reviews have said, Ebbott’s writing is beautiful. Also, Chapter 18, the eventual ‘confrontation’ between Amos and Ford (won’t give him the satisfaction) almost had me in tears. However, against that, Claire’s reaction to Anna’s trauma is unbelievable (in all senses of the word) and I agree with another reviewer that focusing on the impact on the male characters of the central incident leaves a bit of a bad taste. Finally, why the coda?
