I love Sebastian Barry. I love his compassion, his all-encompassing Love, understanding, and forgiveness of his characters that he so generously and skillfully shares with the reader. I also love his language. He writes in a uniquely beautiful way that can even make carrots sound poetic. Barry is also a master at characterization. His characters are so real that they come to life and join your family almost as soon as they’re introduced. It doesn’t matter of which gender they are either. His female characters are as credible as the male ones and he causes you to empathize with each and every one of his heroes and heroines. I enjoyed every second of the audiobook, especially as it was performed stunningly by Wanda McCaddon. Lovely and memorable, or as Lily Bere would have said, “unobjectionable”.
