Inheritance by Christopher Paolini

3.0

It was a long slog, but I finally made it through all of these. Despite being chock-full of plot lines, scenes, and characters that flirt with copyright infringement on every groundbreaking (and better) fantasy book that came before, the Inheritance Cycle was fun and usually engaging. It could easily have been shortened by a book and been the better for it. I found the hero's triumph over the bad guy somewhat abrupt and simplified after a few thousand pages of build-up, and the 150 pages spent chasing after EVERY SINGLE loose thread and tying it up in a neat (if sometimes unsatisfactory) bow were a bit trying, but I liked the characters and cared about how their story ended. Mostly enjoyable, but I won't be picking these up to re-read for a long time, if ever. Better and more original stories await.
