"Let me stress that, despite the perimeter fence and the various rules, your residency here is not punishment. You are not in jail. You are not in hell. You are in Texas."
The Blinds, Texas. Where criminals and get a second chance and where the "innocents" (that have provided testimonies are eye witnesses to hideous crimes) can be safe from their past. On arrival the residents get their memory wiped, a new name and a cabin to live out the rest of their lives.
This experimental community as been peaceful for the last eight years. Something live-in Sheriff Calvin Cooper is proud of. Until a suicide then murder take place within a month of another. The trust and unspoken law-and-order these misfits had for one another slowly starts to break down. Cooper is desperate for answers.

This novel was so gripping. I liked the sense of abandonment these characters had. Out in the middle of nowhere, not knowing your birth name, no contact with the outside world, not knowing if you're a criminal or an innocent. Fast paced, great characters, high stakes. Adam somehow makes you feel these lost souls in The Blinds. I forgave them somewhat and only wanted the best for them. They've had their memories wiped and have been re-born in a sense.
I would categorise it as mystery/thriller with a sci-fi twist because of the memory wiped aspects.
