Dead Spots
by Melissa F. Olson
Urban fantasy is a new genre for me and I really enjoyed this book. Scarlet is a null and her ability makes all supernaturals lose their abilities when they are within a certain radius of her. because of her power (and there a very few nulls in the world) is serves as the "clean up" girl for supernatural mishaps (including crimes). This story is about Scarlet being blamed for the death of three vampires and having a deadline to prove her innocence or she (and Jess, an LAPD officer who arrives on the scene first) will die at the hands of the Dash (the city's chief vampire) who needs this solved to protect his position in LA.
The story is fast paced and Scarlet is funny and smart. The story is told mostly from her perspective with some chapters from Jess (the cop's) point of view. We learn a lot about Scarlet as the story develops and the author does a great job of developing the characters. It also ends with a great lead in the next book so I will be picking up that book next.
