Cold-Brewed Murder
by Neila Young
This book could have cut out at least 25% of the chapters and been pretty good. It just went on and on and on. I was almost 50% into the book before it was revealed who had been murdered. At that point, I honestly didn't care.
Blake went running off into dangerous situations mostly by herself because she was "nosy". To me it seemed as though she thought everyone was incompetent, including her police detective sister and her police detective sister's boyfriend. It didn't matter how many times her brother and sister expressed fear for her safety, she went ahead and did whatever she wanted to do.
The entire "two men who were so interested in Blake but blew cold when they were with her alone, but hot when they were in competition, or the same room" was irritating. After a while, I didn't care who she picked, and I'm not really sure who she actually picked by the end of the book.
There were way too many people in the book which made it difficult to keep up with who was attached to who,(or is it whom?). I had to wonder why the entire fricking town was involved.
I don't know how book 1 ended. Hopefully it didn't end like book 2. The murder in book 2 was resolved, but there was one aspect of the story that wasn't. So, it ended up with a mini cliffhanger.
The premise was interesting. I enjoyed the coffeehouse aspect. The characters weren't bad for the most part.
The first half moved so slowly that I ended up skimming through most of the rest and reading the last three chapters. I don't feel like I missed anything. I would recommend you read this book and judge for yourself.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book received from Hidden Gems.
