Summary
The morning after her brother William disappears to track down a band of rebels in the area, Princess Marie learns that she is an adopted daughter, one acquired by a mysterious man of magic who helped her mother spin straw to gold. Now the man is back, known only as "R", and leading a rebel group in the forest. R is persuasive, as well, and as drawn young people of many villages to his side, away from their families. Rafe, a southerner who had recently moved to one such village and is now a refugee, offers to serve the crown and infiltrate the rebels. Marie, her heart confused and lost with news of her birth, escapes to the rebel group in search of her brother.

Rafe protects Marie as she blends in with the new community, and stands beside her as she finally meets the elusive R... potentially her real father.

Review
This was entirely too long for the story. It got pretty repetitive and circular; I can't say it was all that great. Rafe is trapped with an enchantment when they try to discover R's real name, and for no reason, she pauses and won't say it out loud. William has to say it to break the spell and from there, she gets all the credit.
