We Set the Dark on Fire by Tehlor Kay Mejia

4.0

With my last trip into f/f YA fantasy, I was cautious going into this but I soon was comforted by the fact it was nothing like that last experience for me and found the writing style works well with the setting and fairly easy to read.

It reflects a lot of current-day problems we have right now such as immigration and how those who try to enter countries for better lives have these horrible targets placed on their backs with stereotypes of "bringing violence into the country" and are being murdered for just existing, especially when making it clear the treatment they receive. I appreciate Tehlor Kay Mejia for handling the topic as well as she does. Hopefully, I'll get around to reading the sequel soon and will read more of her works in the future.
