What a lovely, charming book!
I am enamored completely. I loved the writing style - so descriptive at times and lush but evocative and emotional. I loved Clara, simply loved her. I wish I had her magic and her strength.
The magic system... Clara's magic, ah. I keep using the word loved but I really did love it. The flowers, the emotional reaction with the flowering and the meanings attached to it, so simple and so expressive.
And the world described was also kind of magical, wholly cottage-core, quirky but cozy. Clara and Xavier's love was also done so well and it just gave of that warmth at the end. Gah, I love well done happy endings!
This one is for the comfort-read shelf. A debut novel! I'm sure to not miss the next book by Madam Bakewell.
