Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

4.0

Well, first things first before I read this, I‘ve been watching a youtube video summarizing this. This was a big mistake that I have made here because my reading experience really suffered under it.

I mean as this is such a popular book/theme used in media a lot, you kind of already the plot twist/relationship between Jekyll and Hyde, right? So I don‘t think/hope if you canspoil much about it.

Anyway, I think the story could been MUCH MORE fleshed out. It fell a bit flat for me, tbh. I think there would have been so much potential, to go into more details and stuff, but it‘s like this point of the story happened, then this happened and this happened.

I was disappointed by this, because I expected it to be this kind of creepy, gripping story and for me, this wasn‘t it. I‘m not saying it‘s bad but lots of missed potential on my opinion, to go into more depth.

Tbh, the only thing I really liked was this line:
„If he be Mr Hyde“, he thought. „I shall be Mr Seek.“
The fact that it‘s just a bloody pun, I loved it.
And the fact that Dr Jekyll one night involuntarily turned into Mr Hyde.

EDIT re-read, 2021:
I enjoyed this a lot more this time around. 3.5 stars
