Hmm. I read this on holiday and while I was intrigued from the start, it took a good few chapters for me to get really into the story and invested in the characters. Overall I enjoyed it, KC’s writing is just beautiful, I find the simple elegance of her turns of phrase so poetic so I always tend to enjoy her books. I enjoyed that the plot/set up of the book was very different to anything I’ve read before, even though it leant itself to more angst/conflict than I usually prefer, although in KC’s hands it’s more tolerable than normal. I will say that while the MCs connection in this book did feel genuine, it also felt a teeny bit insta-lovey. Like literally at first sight Adam in particular is kinda gone based of almost nothing. I didn’t mind it too much because as I say by the end I really did believe in their connection, I just maybe felt like it was a deep love that we really only got to skim the surface of in this book. I would have maybe liked a bit more meaningful romantic content from the two of them together, outside of the main story. But that’s just a personal preference.
