The Winter Sister
by Megan Collins
This book, with its beautiful and mysterious cover, is a cold case murder mystery wrapped up in a dysfunctional family drama. .
Sixteen years ago, Sylvie’s sister, Persephone goes missing after sneaking out at night with a boy that Persephone’s mother had forbidden her to see. After three days, police found Persephone’s body. But her murder was never solved.
After being estranged from her mother, Annie, for many years, Sylvie must now go home to care for her mom who has been diagnosed with cancer. Sylvie must navigate her relationship with her mother while knowing her sister’s killer has never been found. To make matters worse, Persephone’s boyfriend, Ben, works at the cancer center where Annie is being treated and Sylvie believes he is responsible for her sister’s death.
.
This book is well-written, compulsively readable and I rooted for Sylvie as she navigated a tangled web of family secrets and lies while trying to decipher the mystery of what really happened to Persephone on a snowy night sixteen years ago. This book kept me guessing right up to the very end!
I'm giving this book 3 1/2 stars. This is a solid thriller/murder mystery. I really didn't like Annie at all. She was so deeply flawed as a mother. I had a tough time with that aspect of the book. Other than that, I definitely recommend this one and look forward to the next book from Megan Collins!
