The body of a young man kidnapped two years earlier is found north of Venice. Commissario Brunetti realizes that the initial investigation into the kidnapping was less than thorough. Perhaps the officers first assigned to the investigation were lazy. Perhaps because the man was from a noble family nobody wanted to ask uncomfortable questions. Perhaps it was a combination of both. Brunetti is neither lazy nor intimidated. He is determined to find out who would have murdered this young man and stop them from harming others.

As always a well written mystery by Donna Leon. It’s hard not to like Brunetti and his family.
