If Kade Mitchell can't have her, then no one else can either. Stacey Rhodes is the woman who broke his heart and led him to the darkness and danger of the underworld. Anyone who has ever gotten close to her has ended up dead. When he gets a moment of freedom from his life, he is driven to claim her back again. Not even his hatred and despise for her can stop them from being pulled back together. He will never forgive her for what he did. Or will he?
I was hooked within the first couple of chapters, not only for this book but the entire series. I went through almost every emotion while reading this book. There were moments where I was laughing at the snarky banter going on between Kade and Stacey. Then I would be wanting to scream at the page for the miscommunication and complete lack of communication between them. Oh, and the spice just intense but oh so good. Leigh Rivers knows how to write emotionally complex characters that have such good chemistry.
I decided to start reading this series after seeing a booktuber reading the prequel novel to this trilogy. For some strange reason seeing another person completely destroyed by the contents of a book made me want nothing more than to start reading the Edge of Darkness trilogy. I'm happy I did but I am still at a loss of how to feel after reading the book. It was the perfect mix of plot and spice. It was much darker than I had initially expected it but not too much where it overwhelmed the rest of the plot.
Given how dark this was, I am hesitant to recommend it for everyone. Check those triggers then proceed with caution. That said, if you are looking for some emotional turmoil mixed with some steamy spice and a morally black man, then this is for you.
No context quote #1: "She’s feeding into my obsession, and it’s only going to get worse. This is only the beginning."
No context quote #2: "If you want me" - she grins as she pushes out two words I'm sure will make her feel powerful - "then beg."
