My actual rating is a 3.5.

“The angels will return and bring ruin to the world. You will know this time by the rise of two human Queens—one of blood, and one of light. One with the power to save the world. One with the power to destroy it.”

This is one of the most unique stories that I’ve read in a hot minute. Elemental magic, angels and saints, time travel, assassins…the WORKS.

Okay, let me start off by saying this was an INCREDIBLY slow start for me. Did I spend a good ten chapters in wondering how both stories related? Yes. But was I hooked after we got a lil taste? Also yes.

We love morally grey characters, and I thought this book did a great job in throwing different scenarios and stakes towards the MC’s and letting us watch their decisions reflect their progression or regression of morality. I particularly enjoyed this book because both characters knew the difference between the perceived “right” and “wrong,” but were generally unapologetic in their actions.

One of the biggest things I’m excited about is the potential of this story moving forward. Fingers crossed!
