Notes on Grief by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
5.0
This is my first book on grief, four months and eight days after the loss of my own beloved father. Amidst all the flurry of condolences, the trite cards, the well intentioned meals, earnest hugs, offerings of prayer and "we think of you oftens," this is the first moment I have felt my grief truly seen, understood, and articulated. Chimamanda lost her father when he was at a far more advanced age, but I am truly in awe of the relational similarities, the communal impact, and the universal elements of her loss that transcend time, distance, and culture. I am my father's daughter. "For the rest of my life, I will live with my hands outstretched for things that are no longer there."
